Pom Klementieff
Pom Klementieff (born 3 May 1986) is a
French actress. She studied at the Cours Florent drama academy in Paris. Her
role includes Loup (2009) and Sleepless Night (2011). She portrays the role of
Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
(2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Pom
Klementieff was the daughter of the Korean mother, and her father was
French-Russian. Her father was a consul of Quebec City, Canada. Eugene
Klementieff, a painter was her great-grandfather. Because it is a resemblance
to the Korean words for "spring" or "tiger" her parents
gave their daughter the name Pom. Klementieff spent one year in Canada before
her family moved frequently because of her father's work. They lived in Japan
as well as the Ivory Coast, before settling in France. Klementieff lost her
father to cancer at the age of five. Her mother was also diagnosed with
schizophrenia. Klementieff was raised in France by her paternal uncle and aunt.
Her uncle, who she described as "like [her] father" died when she was
age 18. Her older brother who committed suicide seven years later, was her
aunt. After the death of her uncle Klementieff attended law school briefly to
please her aunt. However, she didn't think the path was appealing. Also, she
worked as a waitress in France as well as a salesperson. At the Cours Florent
drama academy in Paris, she began acting when she was 19. After finishing her
studies and gaining an audition in theater that gave her two years of tuition
free with some of the best teachers at the school. Klementieff was the
stepdaughter of Catherine Deneuve in Apres lui (2006) the film that was her
first professional acting gig. The filming took place over three days to
capture her scenes. In one scene, Klementieff was to be pushed down a flight of
stairs but she fell her way down the stairs, and director Gael Morel used that
scene in the final film. Her debut lead role came in Loup (2009) A French film
about a tribe of reindeer herders who live in the Siberian mountains. The
filming took place in a tent, a long way away from the nearest village where
temperatures dropped to below freezing.
