Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16 1936 - - August 17 15th, 2015), was an American actress, ballet dancer and choreographer. She is best remembered for her roles in Batman's television series from the 1960s Batman as well as Marta the Orion slave with green skin in the Star Trek 1969 episode "Whom Gods Destruction". The Huffington Post called her "a pioneer in female superheroes for television." Yvonne Craig was born in Taylorville, Illinois, and was raised in Columbus, Ohio. Her family relocated in 1951 from Illinois to Dallas. There she attended W. H. Adamson High School in Dallas and Sunset High School. However, she did not complete her studies as she did not have "one credits for PE". Craig was found by Alexandra Danilova (a ballerina and teacher) and joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as its youngest corps de ballet member. In the role of Batgirl, this training proved extremely beneficial. She left the ballet troupe in the year 1957 "over disagreements over casting changes" and relocated to Los Angeles in the hopes of pursuing her dance career, but found herself cast in film roles. Her first appearance was in a TV episode of Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") as well as Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later became the Batgirl's police commissioner James Gordon. In the years following her appearances on The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story (all 1959) and Gidget (all 1958) she also guest-starred as Beverly Mills on the TV show Mr. Lucky (also 1959). Craig was spotted with Bing Crosby and Seven Women from Hell (1960), in which she was joined by Cesar Romero. In 1962, she was a guest star on Western Laramie's show "The Long Road Back". Craig also starred with Elvis Presley's roles in It happened at the World's Fair (1963), and Kissin' Cousins (64). In the year 1966, she was a part-time actress in Mars Needs Women. In 1967, she was an Russian ballet dancer in In Like Flint.
