Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994 was an American retired artistic gymnast. She has also been twice an Olympian. She was captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" as well as the in 2016 the "Final Five,"" U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. She received gold in the team competition at the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas who was on her team also received gold. Raisman also earned silver in the individual all-around and floor exercise. Raisman has silver medals from the individual all-around as well as the floor exercise. She was also a two time national champion in floor exercise (2012 and 2015), and the 2012 national champion in balance beam. She is also the reigning national champion for five consecutive years in all-around at national championships (silver and bronze in 2010 2011, 2012, and the year 2015). In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber and was who was a former gymnast at high school as well as Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994 in Needham. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and claims that "I really enjoy having the opportunity to not only represent the U.S.A but as well the Jewish Community everywhere." Raisman began gymnastics at age 18 months. She credits her first love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold-medal-winning U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics, whose performances she was able to watch on VHS.She took classes at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through Level 8, when she was transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman graduated Needham High School, 2012 after completing her senior year via online courses and training to compete in the Olympics.
