Maureen O'Hara Biography

Maureen O'Hara was a renowned American actor and singer from Irish descent. The green-eyed beauty sporting flaming hair was popular for her fiery and passionate roles in several American films. Her beauty and glamour were much appreciated. She was also referred to as the 'Queen of Technicolor' in Hollywood. The characters she played on screen reflected her brave, strong spirit that fought for survival and recognition in a male-dominated society. She always called herself the "tough Irish lass" who would never compromise with her respect or reputation to land the roles she deserved due to merit. She was a fervent advocate for women in film and television, and gained a lot of followers because of it. Her autobiography, "Tis Herself", was published in 2004. It was an honest and open narrative of her life including the struggles she endured in her climb to success. She was an adventurous person who wasn't afraid to try herself at her own tricks. She appeared as an actress in over 60 films and was the recipient of a fair amount of international fame. After she left Parra, she married Charles F. Blair Jr. in the year 1968. He was a former brigadier and chief pilot and was an innovator in transatlantic aviation. O'Hara went on to retire a few years after their marriage. But her joy was fleeting when Blair lost her life in a devastating plane crash in the year 1978. The following year, she was diagnosed with uterine carcinoma and required immediate surgery. The cancer was eventually removed. Her health declined in the course of time and she was later diagnosed with six heart attacks short-term memory loss, as well as diabetes mellitus type 2. O'Hara was 95 years old, passed peacefully in Boise (Idaho) on 24 October 2015.
